On the 15th of February we will embark on a journey to discover the most important white grape of Hungary: Furmint. There is no other grape in the country that can make incredible complex sweet wines, sparklig wines, easy drinking dry wines and by now the famous full-bodied single vineyard world class styles.
Since the 17th cetury Furmint was the main variety used for the legendary Aszu wines of Tokaj. It was praised by the French Kings and the Russian Tsars in the 18th century. The acidity, tannins, and availability for botrytis (the noble rot) makes it the ideal sweet wine grape. Furmint makes perfectly balanced aszú wines with long ageing potential. The botrytis gives the wine a beautiful golden color with notes of caramel, dried apricot, orange marmalade, ginger and many layers of complexity. In the last 20 years dry single varietal Furmints have become very popular in Hungary.
We will discover 5 wines from different parts of Tokaj mostly single vineyard wines all made in limited quantities and unique in The Netherlands. During the tasting there will be consistent bites and good vibes.
We start at 7:00 p.m at Petit Celler in Amsterdam
