Memories-ROVINHUD-Timisoara,Romania.

A week ago we attended a special wine event that took place in the charming city of Timisoara for three intense days between November 10 – 12, 2023. Rovinhud Wine Salon is the brainchild of  Szövérdfi Zoltán, who dedicates part of his time in organizing wine events benefitting children in need.

His adventure with Rovinhud has started in 2014, when Zoltán has decided to take initiative and do something for children with disabilities. It is known by now that the Romanian institutions offer little support in this field for disabled young patients and their parents. Since 2014 this event is meant to gather funds and offer the chance of a better life through therapy sessions and relief support.

Over the years Zoltán has invited some of the biggest wine experts in the world to attend and contribute with their wine expertise. Personalities like Jancis Robinson, Julia Harding MW, Caroline Gilby MW, Yiannis Karakasis MW, and Elizabeth Gabay MW have all accepted the invitation and delivered memorable experiencesFurthermore the event also promotes the Romanian wine industry, by offering the local producers the chance to showcase their wines to the local and international guests.

In 2023 the lineup included 9 Masterclasses, and the guests were delighted with great wines and stories. Some of the highlights of this edition were the following presentations:

  • Single-vineyard dry wines: the future of Tokaj?- presented by Wojciech Bońkowski MW on Furmint, and included rare wines coming from famous domaines like: Demeter Zoltan, Sauska, Istvan Szepsy, Bott, Kikelet. and Balassa.

  • Local grape varieties where Oliver Bauer revealed new wines from Știrbey Winery. The German winemaker from Dragășani, really impressed the guests with a unique approach and love for local Romanian grapes such as Fetească Regală, Novac, and Negru de Drăgășani.

  •  Sparkling pink, success stories from Cava to Champagne presented by Elizabeth Gabay, MW – presenting an approach on different styles of sparkling wines of the world.

It was a great experience to attend this fair and we would like to send a big round of applause to Szövérdfi Zoltán and to all the volunteers and the members of this event, which delivered a very high level of service, always with a smile on their face. We hope that Rovinhud will grow bigger every year, and people will understand that wine can bring us together. At theforgottengrapes we strongly believe that this is the only way to succeed.
See you next year!
